I have replaced EVERYTHING ELSE, just haven't done the Head studs yet. Also I want a way to get more throttle response. What is a good exhaust set up?
What year truck do you have? Although I can't attest to the reliability of it I have read on these pages recently that sometime in 06 international realized that the torque robots that were doing the head bolts were out of calibration and therefore not doing an accurate job of tightening down the TTY head bolts. After that the TTY head bolts seem to be standing up somewhat better? but again, I only know what I have read here about that. Maybe some of the Master techs will chime in and tell me how far off base I am.lol!
mild tune should be alright, but know that anytime you add the extra power you run the chance of losing gaskets. They will let go even on a stock tune, let her heat up on a cold morning, and get some aftermarket gauges if you dont have em. I know of at least 2 trucks that run even the extreme sct tune without studs for a lot of miles (my personal truck is now at 30k on extreme not studded) and a friend is running for longer.
Thanks for the info. My truck is an 07 with a build date in 06 . One of the things that I'm after is a faster turbo spool, I have replaced the oil cooler high pressure oil pump brand new turbo new ICP sensor, i PR valve dummy plugs Rails have been replaced. I want a mild sounding exhaust and just a little more power. Whatv is a good tuner to purchase?
If you want more spool, you want the Atlas 40 FICM tune to start. It greatly helps with turbo spool and helps deliver the fuel economy these trucks delivered new.
If you're still not quite satisfied, I'd get some Gearhead tunes. Matt does a great job turning the 6.0 for power and fuel economy. My truck is studded so I run the SRL+ tune and love the power, shifting, and mileage that come from it. Since your truck is relatively stock, you could run the SRL with a Flo-Pro exhaust and be happy.
Flo-pro makes a great exhaust for the money and it accentuates one of the best things about owning a diesel: Turbo whistle

I run the atlas 40 and the SCT canned 65HP tow tune and have done so for a year now with no problems. One thing i will say is the throttle response is much better with the atlas 40.
The SCT only programs the PCM where as the atlas is a FICM only tune and they can be ran together.
Where can you get the FICM tune, and how much is it? What are the benifits, and does it work well with the SCT tuner?
The FICM tuning is only available from 2 places that I know of. Innovative Diesel or Power Hungry Performance.
PHP is probably the most widely used and is available from FICMrepair.com or directly from PHP for about $150. Benefits include better throttle response, quicker turbo spool, and a little better mileage. There are several levels of FICM tuning, just like PCM tuning. Most people here choose the Atlas 40 but if you're running a big PCM tune you might only want the economy flash. That depends on your tune writer.
