My other truck 93 f150 300 6 4 speed auto,4x4 I was informed that the factory cruse is not working. is there anyway to check this out and see what it could be? anybody know of common problems that i could check? thanks
there are a lot of things that control the cruise function. not limited to clutch switch, brake switch, vacuum , vss, cable adjustment, clock spring assembly behind the steering wheel, electrical wiring, bad fuse. with the exception of the vacuum, it is pretty much all electrical.
it is a common problem for these trucks. There is a switch located on the brake master cylinder that is prone to leaking and allow brake fluid to enter the switch. Mine stopped working last summer and I found on here that you can just simply unplug it so you don't have any chances of your truck burning down. My 95 is included in the recall but I'm not sure if anything older than that is. I have never received anything from ford in the mail or anything. I actually found on here about the new recall and called up my dealer and took it over there where they installed a new switch and adapter harness which was in october, they told me they would have the fuseable link in the end of november but also on here I found there is such a high demand that it wouldn't be available till this year. Well here it is feb. and I Still haven't received any calls about the fuseable link.
When I puchased my '95 in 2003, I registered it at myford.fordvehicles.com. In October of last year I recieved a letter from ford to take it in to have the cruise disabled until the parts to fix it were availible. The dealer told be that at the end of november the parts would be in. Right after thanksgiving I recieved a post card from ford stating that there was a delay and that the dealer would be contacting me in early Febuary when they received the nessary parts. I recieved the call last Wednesday, and took the the truck in on saturday & had the fusible link wiring harness installed. It sure is nice to have cruise back again!
If you need this done to your truck still, call your dealer -- im sure that they have to take care of the people that they have on there waiting list but they do have the parts instock now.
well the 93 was not recalled. my 94 was and i am still waiting on the parts. I dont know what it is doing by not working, i was just told on the phone last night that the 93's cruse was not working. I am at school and the truck at home. so i am wantning ideas on things to check to hopefully keep from taking it to the garage to be fixed.
the first thing is you need to do is unplug the switch on the brake master cylinder. I don't really know why ford only went back to 94 when the older ones use the exact same parts.
thanks for the link, I'm registering now. I thought they had put me into the system when I had service done at the dealer a long time ago. First time I had service done on my civic they put me into the system then I started receiving notifications in the mail.
scratch the registering part... they cannot register you if the vehicle is 10 yrs or older, the website wouldn't register my vehicle but gave me an 800 number so I called them and thats what ford told me.
I know for sure the 92's did not use the pressure deactivation switch, maybe the 93's didn't use one either. Pop the hood and take a gander at the master cylinder. If there is no switch, the cruise isn't working for another reason.
This may sound dumb, but especially since you aren't there to do it "right" yourself, make sure they check that connection! I can't stress how much merely re-checking any sort of connection has fixed a problem that I toiled away at. On top of not having to do extra work, it is the simplest potential solution to the problem. Always best to start off simple and cheap, eh?
