My Bronco just hit 100,000 miles. I was thinking of having the transmission and four wheel drive serviced, and having the radiator flushed. Is this a waste of money, and can anyone suggest any other routine maintenence at this stage that could help my truck last longer?
The trans should have been serviced twice by now, and the same for the radiator. Changing all the lube certainly won't hurt, especially if you've ever forded deep water. To drain the front diff, you have to either pull the chunk (too much work if it doesn't need other repairs) or pump it out thru the fill hole.
For a full list, look in Chapter 1 of the Haynes manual.
Just get a cheap pump and pump out the front diff fluid. But I took mine to Jiffy Lube and paid 20 bucks to have them pump out and fill the front diff. Well worth the 20 bucks IMHO.
I also read that you can take the bottom bolt out of the front diff and it will drain out from there, but I never tried that. What the heck were they thinking, not to put a drain plug in the fron diff???
Depending on how often you have used four wheel drive is going to effect your service. If you have never done anything to the front axle shaft joints, I would just replace them now because you are going to have to sooner or later. Better to replace them now than to have them break at the wrong time.
As for the differentials, tranny, and transfercase fluids, do them all. Heck. You could even change the oil if you feel up to it.
