A guy told me to put liquid lead in with my fuel for my 66f100. I have a 390 in it. He said the old motors will run better on leaded fuel. Anyone ever hear of this? Is there any merit to what he told me?
That is supposedly to protect the valve seats. They used to put lead in gasoline as a lubricant and cushion for the valves and valve seats. Since the romoval of the lead there are now a number of after market lead substitutes available. I ran it in my 428 cj and it didn't help. Almost sucked the valves. Caught it just in time to save the heads. Best bet is to have hardened valve seats installed.
The lead additive is not expensive. If I were running the older valve seats I'd still use the additive. It won't hurt anything and may help. The brand I was using was called lead substitute and was in a grey bottle.
