I searched this quite a bit and haven't found too much in the way of discussion. I'm getting ready to tackle the front end rebuild of my 1994 STD cab RWD 150. Its the one in my sig. This is road truck and used for work as well as daily driver so off road fun is not in her future.
My question is parts quality. I know there are a bunch of pros and experienced front end experts on here and wanted your opinion. According to Rock auto, Moog offers a lifetime warranty on their parts while Motorcraft and Raysbestos both offer 2yr warranty on ball joints and tie rods. I'm obviously not getting rid of the truck so I'm in it for the long haul. What do you guys think? I've used Moog in the distant past and was very pleased but who knows where stuff is made nowadays. Price is really not too much of an issue as they all fall within $10-$15 of each other. Also, all the talk of urethane bushings over standard is interesting. What about urethane squeak?
Me as well. I'm slowly re-building my front end with Moog stuff as well (Radius arm bushings, ball joints, pivot bushings, tie rods, end links).
All of the Moog stuff looks pretty good quality to me. I believe all the boxes I got said Made in USA. I've been picking them up off eBay and Amazon, much cheaper than at the local auto parts store. Use the Federal-Mogul website to look up the part numbers. http://www.fme-cat.com/
I was going to use Moog for my front end rebuild, but ended up using Mevotech due to the cost. Mevotech is much cheaper, and I've read good reviews.
The quality of the parts looked good for the most part, but I'm not sure about one of the tie rod pivot seal; it is just a rubber grommet that fits over the bolt and is compressed when assembled, rather than a traditional boot. Also, when assembled, I wasn't able to get any grease into the zerk on the tie rod with the grommet seal. I did pre-grease all before assembly. All other parts looked like quality units.
So far, I've only got a few hundred miles on them, but only time will tell if they were worth it.
Moog it is guys. Thanks for the input!! Like I said before, I've used them in the distant past with great results. Haven't had the need to do allot of front end work in some time.
