I have a question or more like need some. I was in the process of changing out rotor and pads and my caliper bracket bolts while loosening them. The weird part is the bolt was turning in the process. The passenger side was easy as pie. The drivers side has me stuck. I have tried to drill out the broken bolt but noting is working. I don't know where to go from here. I have already purchased a new caliper and the bracket that goes with it. I just need to get this old one off so I can move on. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated. Or if someone feels they want to stop by and lend a hand that is also welcomed lol. I will try and post pictures with this post.
Apply heat to the bracket like a propane torch or something similar. Then use some vise grips to twist it out. Or cut the rotor around the bracket to get access to the bolt from the opposite side.

Upper or lower bracket mounting bolt?
Is it broken off flush with the bracket or are there exposed threads?
You are talking bracket to knuckle mounting bolts not the caliper to bracket bolts correct?
If you post up where you are maybe one of us will be close enough to swing by and take a look. From your description I think you're in a rough spot. The caliper mount bolts to the knuckle, and it's more than likely also going to need replacement. Not a cheap part, and replacing it is much more involved than a brake job.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable using a propane on my own. I think I might need some adult supervision. Seriously though I have never used one so I wouldn't know the first thing about it.

The top one is broken off almost flush the bottom one is all messed up from me trying to drill it. I'm talking both caliper to bracket and bracket to knuckle. The caliper to bracket I'm to worried about being that I just purchased both already. I would post pictures but I can't figure it out.

Tom
I'm Federal Way, Washington. Yea that's what I'm worried about. If there is any damage to the knuckle. If so at least I would be a put on the new caliper and bracket so I can put the tire on and have it towed to a shop. If anyone is local that can help please let me know. My number is 912-980 six four two five.

Give this a read, it will show you how to post photos. We really need to see what you are seeing to give you the best advice.
I finally got the bracket off. Tom as far as I know I didn't mess up anything else. I did buy a torch assembly from Lowes which didn't work. I drilled it but then my drill bits started snapping. I finally decided what if I could " saw" it off. So I purchased a metal grinder and hooked it to my drill. Wouldn't you know it went through that metal like butter. I do appreciate all your help. Tomorrow I will be taking the bracket/ caliper assembly back and just buying a bracket. Hopefully they will have the caliper bolt. I will also be tackling the drivers side front which also the last tire tomorrow. I will report on how that turns out. This is part of my new car purchase maintenance that I never got to do before I left to Afghanistan. All I have left is new tires and a coolant flush and she should be good for the winter. Enjoy the weekend...
Damn it!! It happened again. This time I get the caliper came off without a problem. Again I got to the bracket which has bolts that only the Hulk could remove. So came up with hat I thought was an awesome to use my floor jack to try and break the tightness of the bolt. Surprisingly it worked. So while unscrewing it of course it snapped on me. I even tried applying heat to it. The torch I bought from the parts store did nothing for it. I still have not the slightest how I'm going to get the top bolt out. Anyway just updating you all.
lopealle- Post some pictures of this. First is a image sharing account like flickr or photobucket. When you are removing this stuff are you using any penetrating oil? I have used PB blaster and it seems to work well.
BTW I am in Kent. Come check out the WA chapter when you get a chance.
Or email the pics to a member on here and they can host them. I would do it but I'm crazy OCD and delete pics off of my photobucket all the time and I would rather these stay in here for anyone else that has this issue.
I finally got the bracket off. I found out that if I turn the wheels I get more space to work with. Again I'm not a mechanic so the common sense thing didn't work out for me. I also went and purchased an electric impact wrench. I had no idea they made electric impact wrenches otherwise I would have bought one from the start. I still have a minor set back. I went to the dealer and purchased the bracket bolts for the rear. I was told that the front and rear were the same size (which they are not) so now I have extra rear bolts and no fronts. Hopefully the dealer will have some tomorrow. I would like to thank you guys for all your help and input. Although I didn't get to utilize most of the advice on here. I still got some pretty awesome tools out of the whole experience.
Bently Coop PM me sometime and we talk shop sometime over a couple of beers.
