203 stat for 6.0?

Hi all. Have a Thermostat question. Ok, on my 7.3 (years ago) I upgraded the stat from the factory temp around 192 or so to the 203 stat that some aftermarket dealers sell. Some of you here might remember that upgrade. It seemed the 7.3 ran a lot better with a hotter stat than what ford had put in it.

Has anyone done any testing on the 6.0 to see if that holds true for the our 6.0?

Would it run better with a hotter stat? Or worse?

Fuel economy benefits?

I haven't come across any readings about this and was just curious to know if it would benefit our 6.0?

Thanks

No. I haven't found a different stat yet and wondered if one was out there for the 6.0 as it was for the 7.3. I did find new housings for the 6.0 in different colors on one of the sites.

It would be curious to see if a hotter stat would make the 6.0 run better?

I would want a 197-198 t-stat.

I've seen the referenced 192-195 t-stats, but it seems most of us see an average of 190 regardless of what is being used.

That is what I've been finding. On cold days now my temps would stay around the 188-191 range.

Can someone tell me why it's so important that the coolant temp be above 190 degrees? That part of it is lost on me...

More efficient burn, equals more power and better mpg.

Like everything there are 'ideal' temps and not so ideal temps. As someone else mentioned. 190-198 is probably the 'sweet spot' for the 6.0. I noticed that when I run in the 195 range, I could hit 23 mpgs. Running the same stretch of road with a 180 (no thermostat installed) and I couldn't get above 18mpgs.

Also, running high coolant temps will cause all sorts of issues. Running Coolant temps in the 220's all the time is an issue, as is EOT in the 240's.

Hm so you still ran at 180 with no t-stat at all? Maybe mine is bad then, I only run around 182-184 on cold days

I wouldn't replace it. It seems "alot" people have the same issue running less than 190*. I was running a max 188*, no load....put in a new Motorcraft t-stat....now I'm running a max 188*. That's right, no change.

There's a recent thread titled "Thermostat...again" you may want to read.

Here's the link to it. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...t-gives-2.html

Problems happen if its Too Hot No body has mentioned too bad of temps yet

The PCM is set to defuel at ECT of 221*f and EOT 253*f However its a Suttel defuel and most only see it with EGT Gauges

wether or not its a Problem depends how hot and what type of Operating condition

I think OEM is 190 though isn't it? I believe I replaced mine with an aftermarket 192 and at first, I was seeing 192, now I'm only getting 184-186!

I should have clarified that. Mine is at 184 when the temps are in the 30's. (with thermostat in) That 180 was when ambient temps were in the 90's and not running a thermostat.
