I have a 1995 7.3L powerstroke and recently I have had the ENGINE TEMP light come on after the truck warms up. The truck runs perfectly fine but once the light is on if I get on the throttle the light goes out.... But once I let off the throttle a few seconds go by and the light comes back on what could be causing this???? All the feed back I get will be very much appreciated!
I'm assuming your dash gauge shows no abnormalities? I'm not sure if the same sensor that runs the gauge is tied to the light as well. Someone with more knowledge than me will chime in I'm sure.
That's why I'm so confused it's not showing me anything different besides the ENGINE TEMP light being different everything is were it's supposed to be.
Two separate sensors. Check your coolant level in the reservoir (degas bottle). Just speculating, but maybe as you rev the engine, the water pump is raising/lowering the coolant level in that area where the two sensors are.
Oh wait - 1995 - does your truck have the reservoir/degas with the pressure cap, or the cap on the radiator and the overflow bottle? 1995 was a transition year.
Does the temp gauge read normal temp even after driving for a while. Maybe the fins are worn or corroded off of the impeller in the water pump, and it's not circulating the coolant fast enough at idle.
On the old IDIs, I have seen the sensor for the light go bad, triggering the light when the temp was in the normal range. A new sensor for the light cured this problem.
