Hey everyone i am building a mud drag truck with a 514 crate motor and i want to know what it will take and what it will cost to convert to alcohol pros and cons and if it is really worth it also if anyone know where i can find a 514 for less than $7000? i would appreciate the advice
Thank you
The compression ratio will have to be bumped up to around 14-1 through 20-1 to run alki. Talk to a machine shop for the cost of building one. I built my monster for a little less then $5000. Retail price for the turn key copy would have been $8000 not using the parts I wanted.
Actually I think Mark meant you can run a higher compression ratio to get the full benefit of alcohol.
You can run alcohol even in a low compression engine and still get around a seven percent HP increase over gasoline. We ran alcohol in our little junior-drag racing engines and are able to pull upwards of 35-40 HP out of 5-horse Briggs&Stratton. Of course this takes thousands of dollars in mods and running alcohol with only abround a 8.5-9.0 compression ratio.

A flying toilet will run about $1400. Two throttle bodies for a tunnel ram is $1700. It is faster, but is more maintenance. I've talked myself out of trying one. I guess I'll just stick with gas. Dave
I ran a single Toilet for a LONG time on a 13 to 1 466, it's a pain. Went to 15 to 1 (about all you can get ) & saw a decent difference, especially in torque. Went back to gas. Ron's toilets are a good deal used, I got $800 for mine.
