I have a 2002 F450 2WD AT with the common Dana 80 4.88:1 posi rear diff. If I change the ring & pinion to 4:10 do I need to change the carrier or does my current carrier fit 4:10 & lower [4.63,4.88, 5.13 etc]? Will I need to adjust my speedo readings & if so how is this accomplished? Electronically via the diagnostic port?
I am not aware of a company that manufactures a 4.10 gear set for the F-450 D80 carrier. I think the tallest you can go is 4.30. My 450 has the 4.30 gear set and its a good ratio for my use.
Recalibrating the speedometer is only necessary when changing the tire size...gear ratio changes have no effect. Recalibration is normally accomplished via the diagnostic port.
TY for the help. Any additional opinions re the speedo accuracy after rear diff ratio change as I believe the speedo will be slow as the driveline is turning less revolutions per mile with a 4:10 as compared to a 4:88:1?

The Vehicle Speed Sensor does not measure drive line speed....it measures how many times the ring gear rotates. It doesn't matter what gear you install, the ring gear will still rotate the same amount of times for a given road speed provided the tire size is the same.
