Hey guys I just bought an 89 250 with the 5.0 on Saturday. It's a piece, but it runs. It was used as a farm truck and wasn't driven much in the last six months. Anyway when I went to go test drive it, it started up fine everytime. I drove it Saturday night to get gas, started up fine both times. Didn't start it on Sunday (yesterday), but today I moved it into the driveway to do some work on it. I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, and spark plug wires (disconnecting the negative terminal during spark plug work). After I was done it started up fine again, let it run for a couple minutes, revved it a few time, all was good. Turned it off (parking brake doesn't work...it's a 4 speed) to move the board behind the back wheels (it won't move on an incline/slope when turned off in gear) then went to turn it back on and it will not start. 99.9% sure it is the battery, does the clicking noise, lights are very dim. The alternator is new, the battery seems pretty new. Anyone know what is going on? I can't jump start it yet cause my wife is at work and it is blocking my car in the garage.
+1 on cleaning terminals. Definitely check the positive wire running to the starter. It may look good, but it needs FULL amps, not just volts on a few good strands of.copper to engage.
Well I cleaned the terminals and where the negative cable is grounded. When I went to tighten the negative cable back on the terminal it broke, ha. It was a piece anyways. I left it there, slightly loose. The truck started though! Weird. I'll be getting a new terminal connector tomorrow.
