help with starting problem

I tryed to start my truck today and the starter stuck and kept turing the engine over until the battery went dead ! so i put a new starter on and then start to hook the battery back up and it sparks when i put the second cable on both pos and neg which ever one is last.

so i think it might be the solonoid but i dont know, it is new just put it on yesterday cause my truck wouldnt start and i couldnt jump it.

so what would make it spark like that when i try to connect the batterty ?

could it be the ignition switch ?

My guess is you got the wires turned around on the solonoid. The ign wires. if that is OK then you most likely fried the solonoid or something. Why didn't you pull the battery cable when it started cranking and wouldn't stop.

When it would stop cranking .... you could have pulled the connector off the S terminal to see if that stopped it.

Sometimes solenoids are used when the battery power is too low and the contacts inside become welded together causing a constant crank condition when a fiully charged battery is installed.

You never mentioned if you replaced the solenoid before you hooked up the battery.

ok well i repalced the solenoid and it was the problem. it was brand new put it on the day before. now i have a motocraft on it and it's fine....well kind of i have a new problem

my truck dosnt want to start all the time. we were out at a strip pit party last nigth and i had to leave my truck there cuase it woudlnt start. i thought it just need a jump but it didnt help. it was cranking fine but wasnt starting at all.

so i left it over night and came back the next morning and it fired right up so i took it home and drove it to town tonight and let it sit in a parling lot for an hour or so and go to move it and it starts and drives then i stop and it dies and wont restart.

later on it start gets to another part of town and then i let it sit there and it starts when i go to take my friend home, then next time i try to go home it wont start !

i thought it was the fuel pump but i can hear it running when i get under the truck. is there one in the tank also ? could it be the ingition modual ?-spelling

the starter, solonoid, and altanator are new. plugs are fairly new, what coudld thois be ? fuel or spark is what it lacks but i have yet to pulla plug and check for spark .

so can anyone tell me if there is a pump in the gas tank.
