1969 shifter/horn ring

Hey all....

My '69 F100 Ranger has something broken(I assume) in the steering column. The shifter moves on the upper column but not on the bottom where the linkage goes to transmission. What could have happened to cause that?

I was trying to pull my steering wheel to see if there was something up top that was obvious that I could take care of by can't seem to figure out how the horn ring comes off... what's the trick?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks... I will try that and see if the horn ring comes off.

Anyone have a preliminary idea as to what happened to cause the shifter issue....?

Pushed in and turned counterclockwise got it off without breaking clips(whew)

I will see if I can now see what's wrong inside the column.

My bet is the 7212 shift tube's tab broke off. Mike's pic doesn't show it much. Ford's fault not Mike's. There is a tab heat staked to the shift tube that over a period of years breaks off. The shift lever moves the shift collar housing. That moves the shift tube I'm refering too. Then the shift tube moves the lever(s) down below. You can either weld it back on or buy a replacement tube. Let me know your vehicle and I'll see about getting you a part number if I'm correct. A/T or M/T? Year of column? P/s or M/s? 4x2 or 4x4?

Yeah but in the pic it doesn't show the top of the tube. Which is where the tab is. It was cool that you found this pic though Mike.

For whatever reason I'm not seeing any pic.

To the best of my knowledge the steering column is original to the truck...?

The truck is '69 F100 Ranger, 2WD, 240/Auto, manual steering.

Got'cha. Let me know if I was right and you can't weld it back on. If you need to buy one I'll see about the part number.
