Driving back from Denver this morning and truck ran great until the last 30 mile stretch.
It started running weak, nearly gutless. Let it sit for a few minutes and it runs better but not even close to 100% but good enough to get me home. The last tiny hill the truck didn't even wanna pull it. I had just turned into my street and started up the hill and the truck died. Let it sit while I was checking the codes:
P1247
P1248
P1211
the other codes I'm not concerned with because one is the bad AIH and the other is the GPR code and I'm getting that now that I have added the push button GPR mod
I'm not dumping oil anywhere. Oil pressure looked ok on the OEM gauge.
So I let the truck sit for 5 minutes and started. It jumped to life but was running oddly.
As you all may already know I replaced the motor a couple months ago. Installed all new GPs, fuel filter, oil, oil filter. The ICP sensor was the one on the other motor since my original broke. So I'm using it and it's an older one.
Could that be the problem or what else should I check?
I suspect a leaky IPR. Other options include a bad LPOP or HPOP, but those would be noticed over time.
Do at he mentioned above, check the ICP sensor, if you can get an AE or similiar tool and check IPR duty cycle. My recommended course of action first is to rebuild the IPR.
Runs great now. I filled up in denver and then came home. None blended. 20 degrees and wind chill. I think I gelled. changed filter and GTG. no leaks that I can find. Not throwing any codes now either
You say 'blended'. What do you blend? WVO? BD? ATF? EO?
Either way as someone who lived in Boulder/Weld for about a decade with several converted WVO vehicles, blending is really a non-option in the winter. Thats why everyone says dual tank conversions...
Jus' saying. Since I moved back to Cali I took out my inline electric who heater and extra FPHE...still get to about 170f...
So. It did it again. wait a couple minutes. start. an injector knocks hard then catches itself and belches out a huge cloud of white smoke. A guy stopped and gave me a bottle of that red 911 and that helped some. Builds boost and power again but I can still feel that it's just not quite there.
Bad fuel? maybe that IPR is sticking. Should I just replace it since it is pretty old or can they be cleaned and repaired?
You need to see what your fuel pressure is. period. Sounds like a plugged filter or mixing chambers in the tank. that injector knock says "I'm out of fuel". I've fought your problem and spent a ton of money chasing it. Turned out to be a simple fuel pressure problem. IIRC Franco had a similar issue and it was a broken spring in the pressure regulator. Still you need to see what your fuel pressure is doing.
Would that be an instant problem. The truck has run fine since I replaced the motor. and then today it ran flawless for 120 miles. The last 30 it started *******.
Don't have a lot of shops around here other than the Ford Stealer and it's 40 miles away. How can I check the fuel pressure?
And is the IPR a dealer part? I can't seem to find any online
i'd check the intank screens. it's free to fix. you could do the "hutch mod" thing- while you are in there. i think. my truck started running sluggish coming home from friday harbor wash. to ca. i really didn't notice it that bad cept on the up hills- i had to get in it more. the oil sensor on the drivers side head was leaking oil from the hp oil system. the icp i think. replaced it. still kinda sluggish. i dropped my tank and found this stuff:

^^^^ This. Then most likely it's hutch/harpoon time as Kurt suggested, or a fuel pump. Never heard of a broken spring in the FPR before, good tip.
I was itchin to sudgest tank screens . ^^^ I see it has already been recommended ! I agree , check fuel supply . Modify the pick up if screens plugged . And add a frame mount filter before the pump .
