5.4 3 valve codes
5.4 3 valve codes
OK folks, need some help. New member, but long time Ford follower, although this truck is making me wonder...5.4 3 valve. when I got it it was not running, had been to dealer for new motor, original owner got upset with dealer prognosis and brought truck home, It sat for years. I purchased thinking I have the ability to repair. Have been doing this for 40 years now, should not be a problem.
1. Dropped fuel tank, cleaned out, new pump, filter, flushed injector manifold, etc. Went to crank truck, no go.
2. Had new key programmed (Thanks FTE for info).
3.Truck cranked, ran for a couple minutes, sounded like it jumped time and threw a rod. Further investigation and research (post on FTE s varnes?) . Excellent write up.
4. New chains, cam phasers, Motorcraft plugs, etc, water pump while I was there. Cranked truck, ran like crap. Missing, no a power, loud ticking. Thought maybe I goofed something up on Timing chain install and bent valve. Since the plug thread is different, fabricated my own leak down tester, and all cylinders were good.
5. Replaced all the coils. Seems to run better, but still a lope/miss at idle, no power, running rough.
6. Hooked up the handy dandy trouble code scanner and it came up with the following;
KOEOff; P0642 (Knock control chip) and P2006 IMRC stuck closed.
KOERunning; P0354, Ignition coil and P0642 again.
7. Near as I can tell, the IMRC linkage is not bound up against anything, I thought maybe it was stuck on the elbow of the vacuum tube, but it is clear, and I just put 8 new Borg Warner COPs on it. I cleared all the codes, went through the same exercise, and got the same codes.
So, as dynamite becomes a valid solution, I am not one to give up. Therefore, I reach out to some obviously very knowledgeable people on this site, and ask your help. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank You

A stuck IMRC will cause it to run like crap. Just had a failure on my 2006. The ticking is odd though.. bad cam follower?
On the IMRC, I think the linkage can be free but the valve itself can be stuck. Not 100% on that...
