I offered to buy a truck from this guy a few months back, he declined. I left my business card if he decided to sell it.
Today, one of my employees was taking some stuff to the scrap yard and saw a truck being dropped off. He called me and I went to check it out. It is the same damn truck I offered to buy, sans motor and rims. The scrap yard will leave it for salvage for a week before they crush it. What a waste.
Makes you wonder . I use to have a small junk yard in the 90's . I often paid $50 or less for "running " vehicles . People do strange things when they want money .....
A lot of times it's title troubles and ever ystate is different but the yards I worked at in fl we didn't need a title to take a vehicle in. Stilla damn shame though to junk a saveable old truck but I used to see it all the time.
I stopped at a shop in a near-by town several months ago and inquired about two '78 or '79 Broncos sitting in their back lot. They told me they belonged to customers and they were working on them. I told them if they ran across one at a decent price, I was interested.
I was by there today. One of them has fresh primer on it, so I stopped again and asked about the other one. Turns out the customer never paid them for the work, so they sold it LAST WEEK for scrap. $300! I couldn't believe it...
When I first got my 76 F100 it was about to be scrapped. It had already been stripped of most of its useful parts and was headed out the door. There was no way I could let a perfectly running truck get tossed away like that so I saved it and brought it home.
Although after hurricane Katrina blew through here several years ago I saw old Fords being scrapped left and right when most of them never saw salt water or anything else. Tons of good trucks and good parts gone forever because someone wanted to make a few bucks.
Makes one feel horrible that they couldn't be saved.
