Just got to 19in flat screen computer monitors for free and want to put them in the excursion. Any one have any ideas or who a product that will hold them
What are you trying to do, operate your PC in the Ex?
No to play DVD on them. A LCD computer monitor is the same as any car monitor just these are 19in. I am right now looking into tuning one into a touch screen and hooking it up to one of the new mini computers and having a 1 tb hard drive to store movies or music on and play it thew the car.
Yeah, seems like a harsh environment for a computer monitor, plus a thief might think there is more fancier stuff in there too.. Sent from my Sprint PC36100 using IB AutoGroup
No more harsh than what comes in the cars. These are LCD monitors and same if not better than what comes in a car today for the DVD system. And that's why I want to mount them so they can flip up like a standard DVD system. I have seen them in a SUV before at a show and looked stock so wasn't sure if there were pods or something like that. And the back windows are tinted dark so if he is seeing anything it will be my double din radio first. But thanks for looking out but that's like says why paint ur car all nice when a shopping cart could scratch it.
If you want touchscreens and the like in your truck, I'd suggest using a tablet before doing the CarPC thing. You can pick up android tablets and iPads for cheap, much easier than having a full blown PC in there. You also have to keep in mind that even laptop harddrives won't like the vibration and bumps you're going to get in an excursion - plus you have to deal with an operating system booting up, shutting down...etc.
Go with the big screened roof mounted DVD players or put tablet on the back of the headrests (or just let the kids hold them).

That's different...so you're gonna have a computer loaded with movies and music? Take some pics when it's done so we can check it out.
sounds like a sick idea. I would do something similar to this if my system I plan on putting in the X wasn't capable of cracking windshields lol. Imagine the issues I'd have with HD's and PC's.

Your idea sounds good though I'm tuned in
My buddy has a small competition setup with two new alpine R 15"s and he can crack his windows, I'm sure you could do a LOT worse if you weren't careful.
I've always thought it would be awesome to have a little computer hidden inside with a +/- 20" flatscreen mounted to a flip mount on the roof.
All the music and movies you want on demand with a much better quality screen

You should call bull**** on your friend. No way R 15's can crack an oem windshield.
If you want a large screen for movies, I'd just do this instead: Video Link: http://www.amazon.com/Tview-T206ir-Ceiling-mount-Monitor-Lights/dp/B0036D6O2Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1383451089&sr=8-2&keywords=19%22+dvd+car If you want touchscreens and the like in your truck, I'd suggest using a tablet before doing the CarPC thing. I have seen some of the new apple mini computers and also android has one now and all u need is a storage device and the ext hard drives are a tank. I have see them in glove boxes to hold the the music. A lot easier than 20 USBs

Bs on ur buddy's car. I do db drag and I have seen vehicle do 160s and don't crack there windows. I had 4 18s on 10k doing 155s at 32hz and didn't break a window. It's hard to shatter a window.
