Painted Drums?

Since I need to put new brake drums on my '92 anyway, I was thinking of giving them a coat or two of paint to keep them from rusting up so badly. Has anybody done this? What did you use? How well did it hold up?

I did it to mine. Degreased the crap out of them to get the anti rust shipping stuff off. Then shot them with brakleen to make sure it was all off. Then I used high temp engine paint. Drums don't really get that hot, so it's held up pretty well over the past year or so.

The last time I did brakes I used kerosene to get the anti-rust off the braking surfaces then brake cleaner to get the thinned residues off. Is that similar to what you did, Bob, or did you do something more in-depth?

I used diesel, because it's what I had, but pretty much the same!
