what temperatures do brake drums reach?

I wanted to paint my rear drums. So I went and I bought paint. Later on I asked the guy and he said I needed to use hi-temp paint cause it'll burn off cause they get real hot. So if that helps any...

About 200-400 degrees (from personal experience touching them after long hauls) vs. discs which can hit well over 800! Your front drums will get much hotter than the rears, normally.
