Few weeks ago i finally decided to pull the trigger on a set of traction bars for my truck after i saved up enough money, and they just showed up today. I decided to go with Flight Fabrications over other larger names because of the fact i like to support smaller companies, especially ones that do excellent work. This is a one man show, so it did take about 5 weeks to receive these, but it was absolutely worth it. The owners name is also Miles, and he offers good pricing for what you receive, outstanding customer service and again, the traction bars and mounting hardware are so nice and well built i dont even want to put them under my truck lol.
I decided to go with the single tube style, vs the ladder bar setup, as i dont plan on any big HP improvements. These were just to control axle wrap from my current power level along with 5" rear blocks, that may go bigger someday. With the price of these bars, that also includes shipping and powdercoating any color you choose. He also offers weld-on and bolt-on to the axle mounts for the rear, but i chose bolt on (little more expensive) but easier to install as i dont have a welder. He found a tan that nearly perfectly matches the tan in the King Ranch two tone, and had the name plates powdercoated white. I cant wait to put them on, they are going to look sweet!!
Heres some crappy cell phone pics with terrible lighting...ill get some better and much higher quality pics Saturday when i install them. Installation is straightforward enough, bolt on the rear mounts, attach traction bars to rear mount, attach front mount to traction bar and hold up to frame and mark where you have to drill the 3 holes. Drill 3 holes, install upper mount and you are good to go.
I heard a lot about them on facebook, and on some diesel forums, but i wanted to check them out in person before i ordered some. Went to a big diesel event in NJ last month and saw a set on a truck and was sold. His fabrication skills are awesome, and everything is tig welded by hand. He will do much more than just traction bars, hes actually making me a set of adjustable sway bar end links so i can put my sway bar back on
I finished these up yesterday and i have to say, i cant believe i drove without them for so long. They made the truck 100x different. Feels like i lost all my turbo lag and that it pulls harder off the line...maybe because the axle is no long rotating backwards taking off? And this is just driving normally. Shifting is also completely changed, before with my tune it would have a firm but noticeable shift into every gear, now it is crisp and quick but you dont get the same jolt as earlier. Its hard to describe but they were definitely worth the addition
Installation wasnt too bad, i ran into some troubles installing the rear axle mounts but that turned out to be my problem. If you dont have the block and all the springs completely in line with each other (my blocks were just slightly twisted) it wasnt letting me get the u bolt top plate back on. Other than that, it was easy. I had to extend the joints out a little just because i wanted to gain some more clearance from a nut on the frame that holds fuel/brake lines. Bolted the front mounts to the trac bars and then held it where i wanted it on the frame and marked the top hole. Center punch, 1/4" drill then 1/2" drill. Bolted the mount on, and then marked the 2 bottom holes. Repeat center punch, 1/4" then 1/2" drill. Dont be like me and try to use whatever drill bits either, i ended up texting Miles (who sold me the bars) to get his recommendations and he told me to get some cobalt drill bits. Went much faster through the frame with those...
Here are some installed pics, i still need to get some with a real camera someday. Anyways, very happy with my purchase
I dont know how i missed this thread but those bars look sweet man! Does he get the painted/powder coated to what every you want? Also how much were hey if you don't mind me asking?
I didnt really notice a difference in handling, i had to remove the rear sway bar to install these and he said the traction bars act as a rear sway bar. So i have no sway bars front or rear and trac bars it and handles great
I dont recall what the pricing is, i believe around $735 and that includes powdercoating of the bars and name plates any color you choose.
