After pulling my fifth wheel, I will unhook and the truck sits. The next morning, the truck will sound like it is wheezing for about a minute or so... I high pitched whine sorta. But only on the cooler mornings, after towing.
Thoughts on this? Can't really take it to the dealer yet because its too sporadic.
2ndstroke. Sounds like ya doing some woodworking with a tablesaw. Ugh.
That was actually Tom's truck, mine isn't quite as bad, just humms or "hoots". Been doing it for over a year now, so I'm not too worried myself. I agree though, don't sound nice.
Here's Tom's full thread, hopefully this helps the op..
That is what it sounds like... but consistent... yours appeared to be starting and stopping. Was there a cause, or you just live with it?
I can see on my mini maxx that when it's "hooting" the turbo is around 1 or 2 psi, I think it's just trying to warm up. Soon as a rev it up, it goes away. And yes, I'm just living with it personally, been doing it so long, I don't really notice it anymore.
If the truck is warmed up and I start, no noise...

My turbo owl only wakes up in cool weather, too.
Mine has only sounded like a small table saw once or twice and it didn't last too long.
Mine also spools up then clunks and then quickly becomes silent after a noise I can't convert into words but too low to capture on a camera mic.
Probably not related, but my son has a Hyundai Elantra sedan that ran nice and quiet, had a shop replace the timing belt and when we got it back it made a very similar sound, at a certain RPM just above idle, it would get bad, just like this sound. I figured they did something wrong with the timing belt, but it turns out there was too much tension on the alternator belt, and there was a resonance vibration on the belt. Once they backed off on the belt tension all was well and quiet again.
Sounds like an F150 4.6L with a bad IAC valve! hhhmmmm. with cold weather coming on, I wonder how many more of ours will show it's grumpy side on cold mornings?
