Update on immediate help still need help

Ok was having a problem with no strt and gas in the oil. So put a brand new fuel pump in and changed the oil. Disconnected the coil and cranked it for a sec to circulated the oil... The connected the coil again and after some cramking it fired up. There is one problem though it lopes horribly and it smells like gas coming outa the exhaust. And if i try to give it a little gas it shutters and runs really rough . On top ofvthat the oil is filled with gas again and the exhaust smokes too it never used to. Im afraid it dragging a dead cylinder with maybe a cracked piston i dont know its got new plugs the ignition time is right i only pull one plug at a time so please help im affraid its junk

Check and make sure the choke is open.
With it running, look down the throat of the carb. If its dumping gas into the engine you should be able to see gas pouring into the throat of the carb.

I checked and yes choke was ok still ran really ratty and while it was running suddenly became very "bubbly" and violent in its idle i gave it a quik shot on the throttle that was a bad idea it reved up really noisy and died as soon as i let off . Before though when it started the bubbly part its rpms dropped too and sounded like it lost another cylinder . quit sure its toast now it will not fire up again

Probably a carb problem in the first place. Sounds like you've got one heck of a flooding problem. Did you actually check to see if the old pump was working or not?

Did you remove all of the plugs and turn it over (remove the wire from the coil first!!) to get all the gas out of the cylinders before trying to start it?
You likely still had quite a bit in there...just a thought.

It was a 390 love the motor and have heard noth but amazing feed back about it but the old fuel pump didnt have a weep hole it was aftermarket and there was alot of gas coming from the rocker arm onbthe pump itself i dont know if tht was from inside the crankcase or not but gor the sake of safty anyway i went ahead and replaced it. I dont want to scrap the motor and i absolutely love the truck so i figure ill probly just hit pick n pull or order a whole motor because with all ofvthe gas in the oil ( it ran like water when i drained it) i think that would b the safe way to go. Or i have a 73 highboy 4x4 i can purchase for cheap ibjust dont like the long wheel base not as good as a short wheel base 4x4 but im afraid its what i may need to do and keep the f100 for other parts to swap( lots of aftermatket goodies)

Although possible, I strongly doubt you've toasted your motor because of the gas in the oil. Again, it's possible, but IMO, unlikely.

It's not unheard of to get a bad fuel pump out of the box, although it's always hard to believe it. The carb certainly is another possibility that's easy enough to check (which would be my next step).

I think your floats are stuck and flooding the motor.
I'd rebuild it myself, the carburetor, not the motor.
Did the oil level come up over what it was when you changed it?
If not but it still smells strongly of gas then it probably is just residual.
It is also possibly to get quite a bit of gas past the rings if the carb is dumping that much through. Stuck floats will cause that.

The oil level increased rather dramatically both times i kno the first drain i filled two drain pans clear tobthe brim. And that would make sense with the carb its been a long time since ive worked with a carbureted vehicle its been me and a fuel injected yoter and jeep for so long haha . Ill tear it apart and see what i can find ( rebuild it) its just frustrating because its a brand new edelbrock 4 bbl buuuuut then again like what was said before things are sometimes bad outa box thankbu for the info. I want to stressbim not trying to be a prolific "poster" but this site is really my only lead on information haha but thank u

Don't give up on her yet! I see alot of the guys here saying it may be fixable.. there are some great ford guru's here, just go through their advice on everything before you call it and it may wind up being a simple fix.. again good luck!

Thank u im not quite ready to call it im going to rebuild the carb . She still cranks and catches like she wants to fire so ill do the carb and change the oil again. I do avsolutely love the truck but its a 1500 dollar truck and ive put alot if cash into it already and gave yet to be able to actually drive it so its kind of depressing.

FWIW, when I first got Old Blue going, I installed a brand-spanking-new-out-of-the-box Holley 600 carb on my 302. Six months into it the carb would suddenly start overflowing gas right out of the top of the carb. I dealt with Holley customer service and shipped the carb back to them twice before they admitted it had a problem and refunded my money. I have since installed an older generation (but rebuilt) Holley 600.
