Tailgate Trim
Anybody know where I can find the tailgate trim for my '86 F150? I may not even have the correct tailgate for this model, but it has the alum portion on the bottom half, then the mounting holes for either the red or black trim piece with emblem. Black would look better with my color scheme, are they interchangeable?

You have a newer t/g. The '80-86 trim panel was aluminum with black paint, and some had an EFI badge in addition to the blue oval. '87-91 had the red reflector stripe and '92-96 had the smoke stripe. I don't know if the mounting holes for the stripes are the same, but I'd guess that they are and that the stripes are NOT available separately. They melt the posts on the back of the stripe to attach it to the aluminum, so if you find one in a junkyard on a bad trim panel, you'd have to glue it onto yours.

I recently came across a trim which is supposed to be for an 80-86 model. It is very similiar to what you describe though it has an XLT emblem and has no black paint. Are you familiar with this style and the year it was for?
