Cracked spark plug
I changed the plugs in my '00 XLT and found that the #4 was cracked -- it had two lines running down the length of the porcelin. Can plugs just develop cracks? I don't think my mechanic cracked this one because it was not easy to get to. I had to move that bracket in front of the plug and put a 19mm socket on top of my spark plug socket to get just the right amount of clearance for my ratchet. The truck runs much better now (no more miss under hard acceleration) but it still has a "stumble" while idling. I'm going to check some more things out to see if it helps.
BTW-I used a Stanley ratchet that bends at the head and half way down the handle too so you can get into just about any space with it. Couldn't imagine changing plugs without it!

Hey Richie...it might be that the plug was broken because it was so hard to get to. It's usually the hard-to-reach plugs that get installed improperly and maybe the person who did the installation before you didn't have that magic wrench that you have and kinda forced things....just a thought.
