I can't find how to. I popped the internal clip on the inside...
Any ideas?
Are you replacing the autos with manual or going back to autos? After you remove the large outer snap ring, the whole auto assembly just pulls out. If you are going to manuals, I can help with that as well.
I figured it out. After removing the small inside clip, grab the three prongs with a puller and using a long reach 10mm socket, press apart. The rest comes in view after that.
The stock grease is not super thick. Probably started out a little heavier than CVJ.
I'm just going to clean everything and put them back together with a light to medium dose of Redline CVJ grease.
The first hub was perfect inside. The second had some slight wear marks dug into the aluminum outer. Slight enough that I hit the raised bits with a file and called it a day. The springs inside are like nothing I have ever seen before. They are formed spring steel. More after I take apart the failed part that's on the truck now.
I just replaced the old hubs and the one that was not functioning was so full of sludge that it's own spring would not let it extend out. I think it just choked on it's own hardened grease. I will know more when I clean them up.
I word of warning about the plastic piece that holds the inner spring pack.. Be gentle, go slow and don't use a screwdriver as a helper. A fingernail is a good tool for this. I broke a tab off and I don't think you can get parts.
