So I noticed my passenger side ball joints needed to be replaced. I went to auto zone and bought a set of duralast ball joints and when I torqued them down the steering knuckle was really hard to turn. I thought it would loosen up so put it back together and truck steered really bad. Week later pulled them out took them back and got new ones same thing knuckle was hard to turn took them out and got money back went and got a set of moog ball joints and same thing not quite as stiff but still stiff. Any ideas?? I torqued the bottom one first at 150ft and then the top one at 70ft.
Properly installed ? Not deformed ? Proper seat and bore condition ? Proper lube ? POOR CHINESE CRAP ! Just a few thoughts... I have had issues with poorly made ball joints in the past . Moog is usually " good " quality . But , I just put House Brand From O'reilly in my 04 mounty ....
You are stating torque # . Are these tty ball joints ? Have you checked the MOOG specs for torque ? Maybe you are over torquing them ? I will be honest , I Rarely torque anything other then head gaskets and bearing caps . I always go by feel , and sight for a castle nut .

Was that Before Tie Rod was Attached???? when you checked
Mine was easy at that Point with Moog BJ torqed to Moog Specs
That was with the tie rod unhooked right after they were torqued where ford recommends them to be I never torque anything either but I only did because of this issue.

Was the Stub Axel in???? at this Time
Or just steering knuckle with BJ Torqed???
IIRC I went with the Moog Torq Specs the 170 ft/lbs sounds framilar Fact I had to buy a New Torq Wrench to do it
