Low Fuel Pressure

I have been getting a low fuel pressure warning every morning now for a couple of weeks. It normally goes away after the truck warms up, but yesterday it came back on later in the day after a brief cool down.

I am already running ford antigel. I have run cetane boost in the summer and antigel in the winter since new.

Is this considered part of the 100,000 engine warranty or bumper to bumper only?

Truck has 30,000 miles on it, but outside of 36 months.

I'm disappointed in the reliability of this truck to be honest.

It sounds like your low pressure fuel pump may be on its way out - if that is the cause, I am not 100% certain if it falls under the 100k mile warranty - I think it would be, but the wording Ford has isn't perfectly clear.

(It says it covers the fuel system - but not the fuel lines/tank, which it might be considered part of)

Either way, if you have only recently passed the 36months (i.e. a month or 2 ago), and are under the 36k miles, Ford often will cover some/all of the bumper to bumper as good will. I would take it immediately to your dealer to diagnose and get clarification, but I am pretty sure it should fall under the 100k powertrain warranty if the low pressure fuel pump is the cause.

You may have gotten a bad batch of diesel causing it to go south...

Yeah, Agree with what he said. These trucks are super reliable, every platform has its kinks to work out. Lets just hope that it's just a stupid failure and not bad fuel. At that note, I would probably go ahead and drain your DFCM.

What is the condition of your fuel filters?

They could be partially plugged?

Ford just replaced my radiator one day outside of warranty which was around 2 months ago. I had to bicker with my dealer about this so we already have some bad blood between us I think.

It was then back in the shop because my plastic oil pan is leaking at the bolt heads and I have transmission fluid slowly leaking from the bell housing.

My power steering pump was also replaced a while back because it was leaking heavily.

I was going to try replacing my fuel filters. They have only been changed once.

I don't know about NAPA. I would stick with OEM.

I get my filters here:

Ford 6.7 liter Powerstroke Turbo Diesel Truck Filters - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks

You might have to visit the dealer though to replace filters as they might be the only people to sell OEM locally.

The only reason you had to bicker with your dealer was because they get paid less (quite a bit less) under warranty.

Take the truck in, and if there are any issues, call Ford Customer Service.

Yeah, I would stick with only OEM stuff. All my ford trucks have seemed to love Motorcraft only parts. Plus when you have some sort of failure and Ford sees that you have used their stuff, most of the time they are more inclined to help you out, outside of warranty. Also, I would change my fuel filters every 10k just to be on the safe side. Wow, your 6.7 is one of the only ones I've heard of needing that much work.

Thank you guys. We will see if filters fix it. If it is not the filters then this particular failure really annoys me because I followed all the HPFP hysteria and I have been very careful about where I fill up and made sure I've always ran the Ford fuel additive.

I would perhaps consider a different dealer if you have one there. Also be ready to provide proof of fuel system maintance. Reciepts for fuel filter changes with miles/hours written on it. Logging it onto fords owner website is usual as well.

OEM only for the filters.

I don't know if OEM filters work better, they may. If you use them it gives them one less excuse to deny a claim. If they have only been changed once in 30K miles they may be getting clogged. Try it first. Nothing to loose.

I agree with the consensus here, your fuel filters may be getting clogged. Say what you like about reliability, but a low fuel pressure concern that's caused by clogged filters is NOT the truck's fault.

Agree with Tom. Why not just pull the bowl on DFCM And inspect filter and see how much crud is in bottom of bowl.

What is the filter life of the FF? I thought it was 12K or so. Yea, I would change them out with Motorcraft ASAP.
