Ive got a 1986 f350 6.9l n/a and ive had a brake leak since i got the truck
and it just keeps getting worse,
it leaks from in between the master cylinder and the booster,
as far as i know its coming from the internals,
its leaks fluid like crazy but only from the rear section,
the pedal sinks to the floor sometimes or at least in the last few days,
would this be air in the lines? my stopping power has dropped dramatically.\
Just got one. could the fluid leaking harm the booster?
I've always wondered that myself. Most master cylinders will leak there and if you look closely at the booster you should notice a slight indent in the booster casting to permit draining at this location. In all the vehicles that I have replaced master cylinders on (for this reason) I have never seen the booster damaged or returned because of this failure at the master cylinder. So, maybe the booster has a brake fluid resistant seal.
Just got one. could the fluid leaking harm the booster?
only if the leak is bad enough to actually get in the booster. if it does, it could harm the diaphragm.
but very rarely do i see that happen with a leaking master.
