down Pipe

I just bought a 2002 PSD. My privous truck was a 95 and one of the first mods was to replace the squash pipe with a new down pipe. Is this mod needed on the 2002?

thx Ted

Not necessary on an 02.
You should have a 3.5" downpipe if its stock.
Be more concerned about the up pipes connection at the baby's butt.
The donuts get weak and leak... hampering drive pressure... i.e... boost pressure.
Look for any signs of soot marks on the pipes near the connections.

3" pipe. It only becomes 3.5" once it passes the transmission. That being said, there is no reason to replace it.

If you're adding fuel, you could consider changing the muffler from OEM to a Walker BTM or equivalent. I'm told that change gives much of the improvement a full 4" exhaust does.
