Backspacing on a 01' X

So looks like my lift installer cannot beat the pricing of my local Discount Tire (like by $300.00+) , he will be installing my 4" BDS lift and I'll be driving to Discount Tire to mount my new 18" wheels.

There is no reason why I shouldn't be able to drive off on my oem 16" wheels right? Stock BS is supposedly 3.5" and BDS says 4" with the lift.

Thoughts?

I think the stock wheel BS is 4.5. Could be wrong but I am pretty sure this is the conversation I just had with Cary.

And to answer your question, I do not see why you would have a problem. I think the problem comes with aftermarket wheels. At least that has been my experience.

My replacement 18" wheels are 4.53" - so if stock is 4.5" shouldn't be an issue. I'd read somewhere our stock 16's were 3.5"...

well based on the computer in americas tire the offset on the ex 16" rims are 10mm. so if the stock wheels are 7.5"...

7.5+1=8.5÷2=4.25(center of wheel)+10mm(.3")=4.55 bs

if the wheel is 7"

7+1=8÷2=4+10mm(.3")=4.3" bs

I could be wrong, but back space is only part of the question. The other factor is wheel or tire width. BDS should be able to tell you the max width with say a 4" BS. You could have a super wide wheel and tire combo and it won't fit with a 4" BS on your BDS lift. The wider the wheel and tire package, the more back space you'll need.

What width wheel/tire package are you getting with your new 18" setup?

Ahh yes Parker, lived in Boulder County for close to 10 years, must be getting cold out there!

Wait?! What no snow before Halloween? Blasphemy!

p.s. the pic of my sig is of the X in Wyoming last year picking up I-80 to head to our new home in California towing the wife's Merc on a platform trailer. There's that rest stop with the totem pole right before the turn off. I miss Colorado...

I didn't say we hadn't had any snow.

We've had two small dustings, both maybe an inch or so, and both melted away within 24 hours.

So you move to California from Colorado? That's swimming against the current. We escaped from Orange County, CA 18 months ago to 4 acres and horses in Parker.

I don't miss California one bit! Family loves it here.

Left San Francisco proper in 04' for Colorado, thought I was done. I kinda was. Left last year to come back. We hail from the technology side (which I made a conscious decision to leave as a career), and recently we were made "offers we couldn't refuse" back in the tech sector.

Not getting any younger and I'd like to retire to a nice spread somewhere in the mountains that takes moola. Anyway I have my cabin up in the Sierra to escape to and do a lot. People in the mountains in Cali remind me of Coloradoans.

We do what we have to. Gotta play the hand you're dealt.

Sounds like a great plan! I work in technology too but I'm lucky enough to work from home for a California employer.

Can't wait to see pics of the freshened up X.

How about go pick up the new wheels and tires BEFORE getting the lift done, throw them in the back of the truck and let the people doing the lift put them on the truck. That way they can verify for themselves proper fit.
