Going on a service call after work, kid I know, not too well but well enough. Has a 97 ECLB, died on him this morning, going to check the usual things CPS, but what got me is he said he lost his Glow plugs as well. So I'm assuming its not getting a WTS, Thinking fuse 22 possibley, going to check the fuel bowl wiring, and unplug it if its plugged in. Won't know untill I get out there. I have a brand new INTERNATIONAL CPS in my truck for a spare so I'll have that on standby, I'll keep you all posted!
I'm going to finally get to put the stuff I've been reading around on here the last few months into practice! If theres anything I left out that I should check let me know!
Gotta wonder how a kid who has to call someone else to work on his truck would even know when he "lost his glow plugs" (whatever that means). He probably doesn't even realize that the WTS light has nothing to do with the glow plugs. It is sounding like a fuse 22 / fuel filter heater thing. You'll be his hero for life....

Probably not. Lol. Yeah that's what I'm hoping for. Strange that it just up and died like that. But I spose if that heater shorted and took the fuse. That would shut it down real quick.
The vast majority of people do not realize that WTS is not correlated to GP on time. I suspect that you are on the right track. Good on you for helping him as well!
Yeah. The WTS light only stays on for a few seconds, but the GPs stay on for a couple minutes.
When I had bad glow plugs I would just watch the battery gauge and wait for it to move back up. You can see when you first turn the key on when it gets loaded and then when the load removes.
Yeah I just did my glow plugs. That was a fun task. Passenger side VC was the hardest part. The job itself wasn't that bad. Took me about 4 hours to do after we closed. Definatly starts better. Still smokes after its been sitting a while out in the cold but I guess thats to be expected.
Well, just got back. Man it was cold out there! Sure enough fuse 22 was blown. Then the batteries were dead, that took longer than the fuse! The fuel bowl was so crustified that the wiring wouldn't come apart. So we cut the wire. And I told him to tape it. Also saw several other no nos, like stock air box, orange pipe from air box to turbo, motor was filthy. Made me realize how clean mine is. Even with twice the mileage. He was telling me he was considering selling it. Thought about snagging it if the price was right. Anyways thanks for all the help! It was my first thought. Then you all confirmed it. Knowledge is power!
