Obviously I am smitten with the CC trucks. I think once you have owned one and get used to the room you'll never go back. Plus having a usable back seat is great if you have a family.
There are a few concerns I have about that listing, however.
For one thing, he doesn't list the mileage. These trucks will go a long time, but don't let anyone fool you into thinking that a 200k mile truck is "just getting broken in". The engine is one thing, but there are a lot of other things on there for which 200k is a lot of miles.
Secondly, the bedliner two-tone job is generally used to cover RUST. It looks in a couple of those pictures like the fender lips on the bed may be rotted through (though it's tough to tell).
Thirdly, the air filter in there (from what little of it I can see) looks like it may be a K&N, which isn't a good thing on a diesel. The stuff K&N makes for gas engines may be decent, but for diesel stuff they're known to dust turbos. If the turbo is dusted, there is a good chance there is internal wear or damage to the engine as well.
Aside from that, it's an XL truck with no power options and a stock automatic transmission. It may be 100% fine, just be sure you know what you're getting. And the $12k price is about what you can buy a spotless low mileage truck like that for around here. That's a $7-8k truck in my mind and that may be on the high side of what it's worth (and depends on the mileage too).
As for the cons, it's like parking a school bus, lol. The turning radius should be measured in yards and not feet. Aside from the size I can't think of a negative unless you would want one with an 8' bed (that looks like a CCSB to me). I like the proportions of a CCSB, but I think I would really miss that extra 18" of bed space for the way I use my truck.
All that being said, find yourself a CC truck. You'll love it! I know I do.
You can see that it's rusty. Truck is worth $7K tops. Automatic and plow mount are def. minuses. Only real plus is the Dana 60. Engine position almost makes it look like it's got a slight body lift. "Intake system" is a K&N. Oh, and it's an XL truck (manual windows/locks, bus-terminal bench seat), so it may have once been a fleet or work truck. 'Sup with the missing column cover? So is that sled worth $5K? (Looks like a freakin' precarious way to haul one, BTW.)
So a few things. The intake he said was a generic autozone intake, now if plan to replace that, but can that one still screw with the turbo. Also he has dropped the price to 5500 which is looking better... Yet there most likely a reason he dropped the price.
The aftermarket intake hardware is fine. The filter is what's suspect. You can put a 6637 or Donaldson equivalent on the existing hardware in place of the existing filter.
Price drop - either something's very suspicious, or he's done his homework and honestly found out how much the truck is really worth and adjusted accordingly. Oh wait, this is the one with the sled. So is the $5500 just for the truck, or for both?
Anyway, check for rust everywhere else, esp. the rad core support and the spring/shock hangers. All the other usual "watch outs" - start it up, set the oil cap upside down over the fill hole and see if it blows off (blow-by), inspect for burnt UVCH wiring, fuel/oil in the valley, etc. etc.
The $5500 is just for the truck. From what i know now it seems like a fair price. Though I do plan to go look at it this weekend
That's getting closer to a realistic price for the condition of the truck. At that price I think you could get it for $5k cash. That's not a terrible deal if the truck isn't all rusted to pieces. The way I see it, if the engine is in good shape you can fix a lot of little things for the cost of a little body work. But then again, I fix everything myself and I'm not that great at body work so that skews my perspective.
crew cabs are the cats meow! mine is a 2x4 xlt auto for $4900 a year ago. dealer brought it from texas.
looks like a short bed. that might make parking easier. i've never been one to park up close anyway.
good luck reaching that sliding window.
i would pass on that truck.
keep in mind that these trucks are 15 years old and stuff will break. the good part is parts are usually cheap and available. in my year i've never been down for more than 4 hrs. and 2 of those hours were waiting for the wife.
I have to disagree on one thing with Mike above. He's right, they can and will break down, they are 15+ years old. Where he is wrong imo is parts are generally not very cheap. If you buy cheap with these things, you get what you pay for.
body wise parts are fairly cheap due to the abundce of 150/broncos donating stuff but drivetrain can get costly very quick
that being said i bought my 250 crew4x4 for 6500 with a new trans and alot of new front end parts
oilpan should be the FIRST thing you look at.
i have a reg cab and a crewcab
having the long wheelbase makes driving that more pleasant.
reg cab you know where every bump is around town.
**long turns and parking sucks**lol
I love my crew cab! When I was looking into buying a truck I was willing to settle for an extended cab. But I'm so glad I got the crew! Every truck I had prior to this one the biggest reason for getting rid of it was lack of space. Crew cabs FTW!
