I'm a little confused on this, the aftermarket light indicates that the glow plugs are on and then when light turns off the glow plugs are off? Same difference as the WTS light right? I know on my truck it doesn't like to start after the WTS light turns off but if I wait longer and here the relay kick off then it starts no problem. What exactly is the purpose for the after market LED?

No. The WTS light will turn off a lot earlier than the glow plugs. The glow plugs will stay energized a varied amount of time after the WTS light turns off.

Like he said. If you watch the video the LED is getting power from the glow plug relay which in theory means the glow plugs are being energized. When I put the key in the WTS light turns on an the LED lights up a second later. When the WTS light goes off and I start the truck the LED stays lit for probably another 20-30 seconds. I noticed today now that it's installed if I shut the truck off for a brief period of time and the engine is still hot the glow plugs don't even turn on even tho the WTS light does its usual cycle.
Ok, that makes sense. I always waited for the click in solenoid, you can hear it stay energized but the WTS light has already been turned off. I like this, good idea. So where in the relay did you tie into? I know it doesn't make a difference on the relay's but I have the E99 with only the one relay for the GP but not the relay for the intake heat.
With an LED set up, you will learn a lot about your glow plugs. They will come on in 90+ degree heat if the truck has been sitting. Ithink this shows mine, I can't tell on my iPad until I post the picture.
Nope..I guess I don't have a good pic of mine, buts it's on the gauge pillar next to the middle gauge.

I hooked my wire for the led light to the glow plug relay which is the relay closest to the firewall. It has two large terminals and two small terminals. The hot all the time terminal is on the passenger side and has a rubber boot on it to protect it from touching metal. I installed the wire to the opposite large terminal that is on the driver side or closer to the fuel bowl. It is the one with multiple wires that feed the glow plugs.
.... What exactly is the purpose for the after market LED?
It lets the operator know when the relay is closed. It does nothing for measuring how much actual current is being passed through the relay. For that you will need a volt meter on the glow plug side of the relay.
My '99 still has the original relay but it's pretty worn in places. Some days it passes nearly 12v through to the other side....other days it only passes around 9 volts. Luckily in my climate it's not a super critical item so I haven't replaced it yet. I'll probably need to put a new one in there someday when I get some free time....
I put mine in the narrow trim panel below the instrument cluster. I have the GPR light on the right side of the steering column. I have my add-on heated mirror controls on the left side of the column. My hands-free cellphone control is on the right side near the GPR indicator.
I like to keep the warning and indicator lights in my lower peripheral vision, rather than in front of me. They distract me too much when in front of me. They catch my attention when they come on or go off in my peripheral vision, but are a minimal distraction otherwise.
Another reason for that location is that it isn't affected by removing the dash or lower trim panels.
did mine yesterday along with the relay from NAPA! it was pretty cool watching it today as i was driving around, every stop i made and then go to start the truck again, the shorter the LED was lit up. what sensors determine how long the GP's are on?

I believe it is dependent solely on oil temperature.
