300 smoking issues

Hey guys. I just bought a '79 F100 with a 300 in it. The truck only has 94,000 miles on it, but it smokes bad.

I bought it from my in-laws so I know the mileage is legit. The fuel pump went bad and pumped fuel into the crank case. I drained 7 qts out of it when I changed the oil. I think with the diluted oil, some got around the rings because the spark plugs I pulled were oil soaked.

Question now: Does anyone know how to clean the oil out of the chambers without pulling the head?

The truck runs great other than the smoking, and I don't really want to pull it all apart at the moment, but if I have to I will.

If blue smoke, its the oil in the combustion chamber. Why is there oil that high? Do a compression test, or at least put a vacuum gauge on it. That will tell you if the rings are worn bad.

It's blue smoke, and it doesn't puff. It's a steady stream like it's all the cylinders. I figured the diluted oil could have made it paste the rings or old valve stem seals.

I'll try and remember to take my vacuum gauge with me next time I go mess with it.

I'm thinking valve stem seals, at least with age.

If diluted oil got past rings/seals bad enough to soak the plugs, after you drain and refill the crankcase run it good for at least an hour to burn everything out of the exhaust. Still smoking? May have scored the cylinders running with the poor man's motor flush, second the compression test. ~Bill

^^as Bill said, run it.
Drive it (so engine is under load). Give it some time to burn the oil out before you panic. I assume you fixed the fuel pump problem so no more gas is sent into the pan...jack

I agree, run it. But a vacuum test and a compression test will give you answers.
