ok so my brother went to start up my ps the other day and said it started hard.... no wts light and puffin white smoke for a few.... i looked at it to day got power goin in to the relay other post has power for like 15 or 20 sec....acts like its not getting the power from the relay.....relay is a new mouser relay i put it on like june gp are all new as well.... wondering if its the under the vc harneses just trying to get her ready for winter... thanks guys
Hey Jason havent seen you around in a while. A quick test would be to pull the pig tails and look for burnt pins. If they look good, break out the multi meter. Sounds like every thing else is working. Kinda odd the wts light didnt come on?

hey yeah been woorking like crazy... my gp stoped workng right be for i pulled my motor a year ago.... i put all new gp in and a relay.... i think iam going to just replace my vcg and wires.... i mean hell if it has power to the relay and going out it has to be the vcg wires right
Actually it's considered "bad" if the drop is more than 0.3V.
yeah i have missed you guys too... been working like crazy....so if there is a 3 volt drop from leg to leg on the relay ita bad? damn its brand new.... can you do away with the relay and put it on a swith with a light so you know its on .... than turn it off after like 20 25 secnds ?
Hi Jason, Mad said .3v, not 3 volts. In my old Jetta diesel, I just put them on a switch with a light.
Did your switch control the relay, or did you have the glow plugs themselves on a switch? Putting the GPs themselves on a switch, it would have to be one heck of a switch. That a lot of power to put through a switch.
The switch would have to handle 100+ amperes. The whole point of the relay is to do, well, what a relay does. Good quality parts always trump hack-jobs.
I read a recent post that mentioned the glow plugs on a VW were on a 30A fuse. "That's cute," I though.
Hey Jason! Long time no see buddy! Hope all is well.
If there is power going through the GPR and then it shuts off, it sounds to me like you may want to check the connections to the EOT sensor or check the sensor itself. It sounds to me like the PCM is turning the GPR off after a short cycle and the only reason I can think of why it would do that is if the EOT sensor is reading a higher than actual temperature and telling the PCM that the engine is already warm. If you have a DVOM you can test the EOT sensor and it should read out as below:
EOT sensor can be checked with a ohm meter on a cold engine.
The reading should be close to ambient temp.
