EGR Delete questions....

So I am getting ready to do a EGR delete and oil cooler and want to know if I buy AE can I disable the EGR valve thru it? If not and I need a tuner will the SCT tuner have a program that turns off the EGR valve? Or do I need a custom tune?

TIA!

Have to use a tuner of some sort. SCT is the easiest to accomplish the task of turning the EGr function off whether thru the canned tunes or custom tunes from a vendor

Just wondering, will a 2003 run poorly with just the egr cooler deleted and the intake passage blocked off but valve still in and functioning?

That's my exact setup see Sig below

Truck runs Fine

about 27K since and NO CEL!!

Before I deleated the EGR Cooler I had the EGR Valve Unplugged for awhile and Never got a CEL or any DTC

Try this^^ and see what happens see if CEL Turns on then see what it is for if it even does turn on

03 are less likely to trigger CEL from this

Not at all. Most likely won't even set a CEL either.

Just make sure an EGR valve is still plugged in so the engine fan still operates correctly.

With a MY 2003, I'd just leave the EGR valve plugged in and you should be fine...no need for a tuner. Doubt very highly you will see a CEL. My 2005 hasn't...egr valve still plugged in, no tuner...and no CEL.

Ok I have been looking at EGR delete kits and have a few questions!!

1) WTF is sinister so proud of their kit?

2) the exhaust pipe in the kit where does it go? I am a newb to Diesels. Does it replace the EGR cooler?

3) what kits are to be stayed away from?

4) If I have a bad egr valve and I leave it plugged in, will I still have a drivability issue?

The exhaust pipe replaces the up pipe.

I've been happy with my IPR Gen 2 delete kit.

Sent from my mind thanks to the Internet and an app.

It replaces the Passenger side Up Pipe that's the Feed for the EGR Cooler

In my opinion Sinister is way proud of it! I mean it is a pretty kit, anodized and SS pipe. I work in the manufacturing sector and after seeing pictures of that parts being machined and in the quantity that is in one set up, it is hard for me to believe that the over head is that much that justifies the price. Plus I am a cheap ***!

So the exhaust pipe replaces the up pipe that the EGR cooler attaches to! Is there a gasket or 2 that is needed?

I feel so out of my element on this stuff, but refuse to part with my hard earned $ for labor! lol

Ya its overpriced for shure

Not to many kits when I did mine

There is 1 steel gasket in between the Up pipe and y-pipe connection it can be bought separately if you have a Kit like that

With where you work you could just weld plugs into each end of the cooler and reinstall it

I could if I was a decent welder! Maybe I will have the local fab shop do it for me. My down time for ball joints and oil cooler is no more than 5 days.

I bought mine new from ebay (egr delete and new oil cooler kit) but the egr delete kit was made by RCD I just paid less for the hole kit than I would have buying it direct from RCD.

I purchased the Sinister kit along time ago...it came with the up-pipe gasket.

If I were to do it again I'd use an IPR Gen2 Blem....cheap and better design.

Agree with Blade35...if the egr valve is in fact bad, I'd replace it and keep it plugged in. Have you confirmed that it is bad? Maybe just needs a good cleaning and a new gasket kit.

I would also suggest taking out the butterfly in the intake if it has one. (03-04). Simple to do and even if the ECU commands it closed it is now just turning a shaft. I am surprised it is never discussed. Before I added a tune to disable mine would close pulling a hill. Motor would flatten out. found later is was the butterfly.
