aod transmission with 70k lost od last night. it engages but wont hold and seems to neutral out until I move it to D. never used for towing and isn't "horsed around" 1993 F150 5.0 AOD Metric 2wd.
I'd check the fluid and see if it's turning brown or smells like it's burning, then if you can work on the trans yourself I'd take it to the dealer. It could be something as simple as your shifter solenoid is going bad. I know when I owned my F350 7.3L with the 4EOD, I started having the same problems, then it started shifting hard. Dealer had to replace coil packs to a tune of $780 installed, Still better than a new trans though.
PCM has no control of the AOD. Possible the servo is bad. I just encountered a loss if reverse in my 1992 F150, and so far, replacing the reverse servo has fixed it.
I'm with Ken on this. That sounds like a possibility. Could also post this in the Clutch, transmission, differential forum for further assistance. I know Mark Kovalsky is the Ford transmission guru. You may be able to send a PM to him.
thanks all. this will be the 2nd used tranny in it. cant seem to get a decent one. would rather replace a servo or o ring instead of a band or clutch. will need further diag but now im off on a decent start.
They burn up cause not enough fluid flowing wen cruising around at 45 mph with OD ENGAGED..
Just have a shop rebuild it with upgraded red clutch packs, upgraded 2" OD band, and a good valve body and tq converter..
And you'll only spend about 1500 and have a near bullet proof trans.. That's what's done to mine and it doesn't blink an eye at the beast hooked to it..
so Ken, you are saying that it still sounds too high? im not attempting to be rude but your link says 30 psi with the tool, which I used. I work with a retired ford mechanic who does everything now. he told me about this site to begin with. either way: still no od, it applies but wont stay in od. this tech told me to check the governor in case its partially plugged.( allowing enough pressure to apply but not hold) its getting cold up here so im looking to find a break at work to check it.
