The link earlier in this topic explaining how to clean the throttle body does not work anymore. Could someone briefly explain what to do when cleaning the throttle body? Thanks!

Try a vacume cleaner , and make some kind of adapter on the end of the hose to get suction as far in as possible. If the tube hasent deformed from heat yet you should be able to draw it out.

well personally i wouldn't worry with it.
it's in a high heat enviroment so it will melt.
after that it will get pulled into the chambers and burned. should it cool on the valve seat fine it'll just heat up and mealt again. something of that nature i would tend to let it go. could cost ya alott more than it's worth to get it out. chances are you already got rid of it anyhow.you can use that tube though.
all you have to do is put in the nozzle then a dab of super glue on it and it's there to stay (most of the time).
the tb cleaner that ill be using for this on my truck is designed not to eat that teflon away so im good there lol. plus i can get about all i want (half empty cans at work) for free. it's already paid for by customers but alott of times you don't need the whole can lol so we save em.

However, there is a noticable improvment in throttle response.

I have a 1997 Ford Ranger and I am in Iraq at this time but I will be leaving here and going back to Korea where I am stationed, with the U.S. Army at Camp Casey. My ford makes a lot of noise from the air inlet / Throttle Body when the engine worms up to worm or higher but the engine never over heats, just makes a lot of noise, I don’t like to drive it because of all the noise, it sounds like a jet engine. Can anyone help me with a solution?

Welcome, and thanks for serving Lee!

It sounds like you might have one of those noisy IAC valves.

Throttle Body

Hey all, I couldn't help but notice all the talk about throttle bodies. I know that with the 4.0 it makes a huge difference to upgrade throttle bodies (like BBK 66mm). Is there an upgrade for the 3.0 ranger around? Does anyone know.

Also, I know that some vehicles like S-10's are interchangable with bigger OEM throttle bodies from different vehicles, like pontiacs; for that aftermarket gain at a fraction of the pricce.

Does anyone know if say a 3.0 taurus or windstar throttle body is a) a bigger throttle body and b) will bolt up to the 2000 ranger 3.o v6? Or if there are any aftermarket throttle bodies made for the vehicle? Maybe also, will a 4.0 stock throttle body fit?

I have a cold air intake, but I just want a little more from the intake. Any recommendations are welcome. And on a technical note, what is the bore (mm) of the OEM throttle body in the 3.0?

THanks a lot for any input.

Supposedly the BBK 1548 throttle body (56mm) for the '94-'01 Mustang 3.8L bolts up to the 3.0L '98-'01 intake, but you'll have to swap throttle shafts. I have no idea what gains might be expected (if any) nor am I sure whether some tuning is necessary.

I just recently ran some "Sea-Foam" cleaner through my 2004 3.0 w/ 33,000 on it. I also cleaned the Idle Control Valve, MAF, and TB while I was at it. The TB was filthy as well as the ICV. This cleaning went well and solved my idle dip which would stutter lower than 800 rpms making it seem as if my engine was going to kill. My engine doesn't have significant HP gains like some people would like to see but I definitely have a sharper revving engine with a much more smoother, and consistant idle.

Deep creep and Seafoam is the best stuff to use to clean the TB by far!!

Some moron sprays half a bottle of TB cleaner in the intake and washes all the oil off cylinder walls then sues Ford. Any major company also has to take care of its dealers and garages. If Ford wanted to they could make vehicles that had virtually no maintenance. BUt why would they? The majority of car owners are not going to home repair things anyway. And then all those high priced income making entended warranties would be garbage. Ford makes great vehicles but it is still a profit oriented company. And that is the bottom line.
Another thing to check out is your total throttle blade opening. It should be horizontal when fully opened. Mine hit it's stop about 15º before absolute horizontal and after bending it's metal stop, I was able to get it perfect and pick up some free h.p.. Adjusting your throttle cable so that there is no slack also helps your engine's responsiveness, off idle. My '04 Taurus had those same factory, mass production inaccuracies that are present in just about all mass produced vehicles. And by the way, Ford would not exist if it wasn't for the fact that "profit" is the grease that allows the gears of production to mesh efficiently.
