2003 F250 HELP!!!

I have a 2003 F250 6.0L turbo Diesel. It started running rough and now it will not start at all. It turns over real strong and kinda acts like it wants to start. I can hear the fuel pump that is mounted under the drivers door area running. It is much loader than it used to be when the truck was running. Also the fuel pump will not stop "running". Can someone please give me some insight on what may be the problem? I am thinking the fuel pump is bad. I do not have the tools to test the fuel pressure and do not have a lot of money to spend. So troubleshooting is very important so I find the problem without making a costly mistake.

Thanks for the Help!!!

Kelly

Welcome to FTE. I am moving your thread to the 6.0L Power Stroke engine forum. You'll get the help you need there.

You need to get something to code scan the truck and hopefully something that can read live data like a Scangauge II, Dash Boss, Torq , Edge Insight. You can't just guess and start replacing parts as that gets VERY expensive. Just because there may or may not be a CEL doesn't mean it doesn't have codes stored.

What part of NC are you in? I know a few folks there who might be able to help

Is the fuel tank around 1/4 or less? When you say the pump won't stop running, do you mean with the key off?

the tank is around half or more. no, the pump just runs when the key is on. in the past i could hear it for a short time before i started it and then it would not make anymore noise. like it had primed the system. but now it never stops running like the system is not priming or holding pressure.

my "brother in law" who is a dealership mechanic came over and ran his OBD on it and said there were no faults or codes. He is a bowtie mechanic. he told me he would help me out but that was awhile ago and i really need my truck. i am located just outside Fayetteville, NC between there and Lumberton, NC. i am not to savvy on this truck so you may need to speak elementary to me. SORRY!

There are several things that can happen that would not produce a fault code. You will need to buy or borrow an OBD reader that reads live data, not just trouble codes. Popular ones are the Scangauge II ($160) or if you have a smartphone, there are apps and OBD wireless transmitter to read the data. ($25-$50 I think) Without something to read the live data....you are very likely to make that costly mistake by "guessing" and buying parts you may not need.

With that outa the way....when were both fuel filters changed last?

What brand fuel filters did you use? Has the oil filter been changed recently?

Did you drain any water out of the HFCM when you changed the frame mounted filter? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...lter-hfcm.html

Pull the Upper fuel filter Cap turn key on does it fill with fuel?? AND HOW FAST did it fill

Your going to need a Gauge to trouble shoot this thing

You can pull the ICP sensor and try to start

after reading all the comments so far. this is what i am going to do. Change the fuel filters again (fram), drain the HFCM, replace filter housing cap and O-ring, check fuel flow at secondary filter. I will post with results. Thanks for the help and if anyone has any other thoughts please let me know.

Don't use Fram, use Motorcraft or Racor only.
