OK, so Saturday I installed water/meth injection on the old girl. I got a kit with a 7 1/2 gallon tank. I installed it in my cross-bed tool box. I put the blue washer fluid in it, and I've driven it a couple times with no load. I must say, it really gives a nice kick in the butt when it turns on. Going to drag the 5er out this weekend and see if it helps any with the EGTs. I hope so, as that's the whole reason for getting it in the first place.
Sounds great Brian! I'm thinking of putting a kit on mine also. Funds aren't here this year to do what I'm thinking, but next year I hope. What kit did you get? I'm looking at the tow max kit I think its called.
Just make sure your check valve works, I hydrolocked my motor because mine failed. Mine was a coolingmist and if I ever put it back on I'll have a solenoid along with a check valve so when I shut the engine off, it closes the water line. It worked good at reducing EGT's. Another problem was I was stopping every 250-300 miles to fill the 7 1/2 gallon tank. I only used water, going cross country will require a lot of window washer fluid. Good Luck
I found that washer fluid didn't do too much to help egts. Straight water helps quite a bit though as Glenn pointed out. It lowered my EGTs about 150-200*.
I mix up 55% VP M1 methanol to 45% distilled water. Talk about a kick in the pants! This mixture picked up 58hp on the dyno. This does absolutely nothing to help EGTs though. My temps actually went up about 200* it seems like. Lol
I bought the stage 1 kit from Alcohol Injection Systems. It is controlled by boost. There is an adjustable control valve. It's comes preset to turn on at 10 pounds of boost. Just turn an allen head screw to adjust it. I will try just distilled water to see what it does.
And Yeah, the solenoid idea sounds like a winner.
