I read a few postings about converting a 351w or a 302w from a v belt to a serpentine system. But I am not clear what needs be changed (other than the water pump) do the 302 and 351 both use the same pulleys and brackets?
Yes, they use many of the same parts. But you may need the factory adapter brackets to get things together. The 351W A/C-P/S bracket on the trucks and vans is specific to the 351W, it uses three bolts into the head and another hole that sits on a stud that's also one of the waterpump bolts. Other than that, it's much the same setup as the 302. What are you looking to convert ? What engine (year) do you have now, and what FEAD (Front End Accessory Drive) setup do you want to use?
I used an 87 Mustang GT water pump on mine. It is reverse rotation and has the round holes in the metal backing plate so it doesn't matter which style timing cover you have. I say this because other water pumps have directional tombstone style openings in the metal plate and in the time cover that match direction, but with the round holes on the Mustang pump it doesn't matter which direction the tombstone shapes on your timing cover are pointing.
I used all the brakets from a 91 F150 with a 95 F150 A/C compressor, the 91 F150 power steering pump, a 96 Taurus 3G alternator, and the mentioned 87 Mustang GT water pump. I'm also running the Taurus electric fan.
I just noticed today while working on the 96 Van (roller 351) that the A/C-P/S bracket works on a 302 as well. Funny thing about the 96-97's is they lack the smog pump, the roller 351 I bought out of a 97 F250 didn't have converters either.
I have been researching this for myself as an upgrade for my boat which has a 302. The march 1670 6 groove pulley set seems to get it done but I only have a water pump and alternator. This set preserves the standard rotation of the water pump.
Its gonna set me back $200 plus the cost of the belt when I get there.
I was monkeying with an 85ish crown vic with a 351 (interceptor engine I think) and it had a standard rotation water pump with serpentine belt. The car also had ps & ac all serpentine driven. Might be something to look for.

Sounds like the same setup used on the 5.0 Vics, Towncars and Marquis, two flat belts, one for the A/C-Smog pump, the other drives the Alt & P/S. I used this FEAD on my V8 Ranger, only deleted the A/C-Smog pump. These cars never went to the reverse rotation pump, it was used til the end of the 5.0 in them. They did get an aluminum waterpump in mid 88, I'm running one of these on my 331 only with V belts
