serpentine belt...

belt broke and was only a year old. so when i went to put a new one on i noticed the fan had major play in it....just about hanging on.
so my question is....is it a bad fsn clutch or water pump?
my guess is thats why the belt broke. any thoughts? ty

Probably water pump. Are you leaking coolant?

leaks EVERYTHING but coolant. lol
i dont think it was but ill chk again.
i dont even know how the fan is still on.

Mine had a BUNCH of play when my water pump was bad, but I was leaking coolant, too. If the clutch is moving with the fan, I'd say that should tell the story. Like, if everything from the pulley on down the line is wiggling in unison, I'd say your water pump is shot.

Most likely the pump is bad. Make sure to check the fan for bent blades. If any are bent it'll cause it to be unbalanced and wear out the bearings in the pump
