My truck won't down shift most of the time if I'm in 4wd especially I have to manually shift or stop let the rpms go to idle then it shifts down and I can take my foot off the brake and drive again not good when ur in deep mud and u start slowing down and can't bring rpms up
Manually yes in 2 and 4 and it upshifts just fine in both in 2 wheel it drops one gear most of the time but don't hardly ever hit the passing gear once in a great while if I'm hauling something and I'm doing over 60
Your rely while useful still does not give much reflection on no down shifting.
So here is the basics of shifting in either 2wd or 4wd high.
Up shifting from a standing start depends on four major system parameters.
1. Engine RPM.
2. Throttle position.
3. Road speed.
4. Shift selector position.
If it upshifts all ok there should be no good reason not to down shift because all the same parameters are in play.
The only difference is in the computer program for upshift and down shift.
If a programmer were used to alter shifting it could create some issues because different program lines are used for each direction.
Other items such as the OD button operated would inhibit the OD function.
NOTE: 4wd Low changes the shift schedule via a signal from the transfer case motor's rotating to it's second position.
.
Within normal operation from OD, a small extra loading will down shift from OD to an unlocked converter condition which results in about a 300 rpm increase.
The next down shift results in dropping back to third with about a 1000 rpm increase..
Tell us what is missing or what it does not do.
Also check for codes implicating a transmission issue.
We need to find a malfunction first.
Good luck.
While driving sometimes I let off in order for it to want to shift without running the rpms up sometimes it shifts around 3200 I try and make it shift around 2000 I have the 5.4 and its feeling like its loosing power if I want it to gain speed with any kind of hill I can't just give it a little more gas and stay in the same gear lately it goes from 1500 to nearly 2000 I'll be running around 60 and if I give it more gas it tries to go up around 4500-5000 unless I slow down to around 40 then it will gain another 3-400 rpms it just don't want to give me the passing gear like it used to and it lags on the takeoff unless I left it get a slow roll around 10-15 mph then give it some gas if I mash it from a dead stop it don't hardly get up anymore changed fuel filter and cleaned my filter on my cold air intake I can change parts good but not a truck doctor any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Well I can't get anything solid from your description of performance.
If there are no transmission codes set the trans may have mechanical troubles for which a good shop needs to be consulted with.
There may be some slipping going on.
There is no passing gear per sey, just normal down shifting as described above.
Good luck.
Thanks I was trying avoid the s word but I'll probably have to bring it in somewhere get it looked at my engine light had flashed a few times. I wasn't aware at the time that it was trying give me a code
Have u ever had tranny flush filter change ? I've always been a fan of shift kits but I'm not a professionalolagist . It's just cheeper when u do a shift kit cause they do a flush with it
Thanks for the idea though I might try a shift kit
1st adding mods to something that is broken will not fix it. You need to find the root cause of the issue prior to doing anything.
2nd the one person that could walk you through a diagnosis of your transmission issues (Mark) will probably not comment due to your inability to communicate in english.
It's easier to communicate with the local nationals here in japan who do not speak any english than trying to decypher what you just wrote.
I know I sound like a jerk with the above, but i am correct in both cases.
