Oil Question

I currently run amsoil in my truck but I am thinking of switching to rotella. The reasoning is I use rotella in my equipment and just makes more sense to buy that in bulk instead of ordering amsoil everytime I need to do an oil change. Is there really that big of a difference? And it is bad to go from synthetic to reg. oil? I still change my oil between 3-5k with the amsoil. Any thoughts info would be appreciated.

Going from syn. to conventional oil and vice-versa will not hurt anything. Rotella T, T-5 and T-6 are all good oils for the 6.0 and your oil change intervals are good. Make sure that you're using OEM filters only.

The only thing is that the 15W-40 non-synthetic Rotella is not recommended when the over-night temps drop below freezing. Then you want to switch to a 5W-30 or 5W-40.

Rotella T6 full Syn
I have always heard switching from Dino oil to Synthetic is just fine but DONT ever switch back from Full Syn to Dino Oil
I'll also say this after i switched from Rotella's Dino Oil to the T6 (due to recommendations from people here) my truck runs smoother & injectors are quieter (especially in cooler temp's)........

You can switch from Dyno to Syn to Dyno back to Syn if you want.

The rumor mill churned out the "Synthetic oil causes leaks" rumor because some specific types of seals used in the 70s and 80s dont hold up to new synthetic. Older vehicles that used these seals with these materials (cant recall what kind of material it was in the seals right now), would cause the seals to break down, however, I dont believe you can buy these material seals anymore, and a replacement seal wouldnt have that issue.

Nope. Still do 5k.
AMSOIL is good much longer than 5k, but some people choose to stick to the 5k OEM recommendation.

That is correct, however "extreme use" includes towing over around 3K lbs, hauling anything heavy, short trip city driving, short trips of 10 miles or less and extended high speed highway driving. It's a big wide window that includes almost all typical use, so 5K is where most people tend to cluster. I do 10K kilometers, which is just about 6,200 miles, because it's easy and I do tend to drive more towards "normal" (a lot of fairly long rural trips at 50 mph, and on the highway I drive at 60 - 65 mph, no high speeds).

I was running 15-40 amsoil heavy duty full syn. I was a dealer and it wasnt to bad on the wallet. I quit being a dealer and didnt really want anything to do with amsoil anymore. I switched to Rotella. I use it in all my equipment so it makes it easier buying it in bulk. Sorry for the really late reply.
