its the organic led displays that are the problem, it might have to do with the extreem low temps here maybe -20f i dont know. but i know its out and seems to be a common problem on the google search.
i live in a unstable weather area. can go from clear to bad storm in 20 minutes. or be 75 and start dropping temperature and snowing. really hard to tell what weather will do. so like the weather app on the ken wood and live traffic if i make my phone a hotspot. so some useful tools i think
If u can crimp wires together, an adapter plug and a faceplate kit are really not hard hard to do and would get a start on your system. Use the install money you save on front speakers. Maybe pre wire for the subs while youre at it
I went with kenwood, i have the same general kind of unit in my dd and camper, so i dont have to remember different layouts. Usb file navigation is easy.

i could install a regular 2" din on my own. but if i go with double din i'd probably take it to a installer so i don't mess up sub dash.
single din is easy pop in opposed to a double din dremling or cutting sub dash.

The double DIN decks make it well worth it with all the added features they have. Just give an installer a call, tell them what you'd like to do and they can give you a quote on the install.

No sub dash modification. Just the grey trim piece that covers the main dash area. Only about 1/4 inch of plastic is removed from one edge and then it slides in no problem.
If you install the sat antenna, get one that you can just put on the dash. Mine was in the upper right hand corner. Had a magnet on the underside of it.
there was a sticky, gray colored piece of metal that I placed on the dash and then the antenna rode on it. Reception was perfect.
Beats putting a hole in the roof or running wires out of the trim.
so question is since i mainly listen to siriusxm. would a oem radio with cd changer controlls so i can get a aux in adapter. or a sped a lot more to get a modern radio with nav and built in siriusxm and bluetooth calling
If you use siriusxm a lot your going to have a big problem with sound quality in the OEM radio. There is no aux on the OEM radio so you will have to find a dead channel on the OEM for the sirius to play through air waves which in return poor sound quality, or use the old tape style with the wire coming out and plugging into the sirius dock, not the best sound quality either. Also you will have to switch channels on the oem a lot to keep finding dead stations as you travel, in the big city it can be a real pain.
sounds like aftermarket radio with a satellite module is a good plan to start. i can always get a amp and 4 amp powered speakers and 10" sub down the road
Not sure about the room behind the seats in a single cab but i have 2 pioneer shallow mount subs under my rear seat in my ex cab and they sound great for the size of the cab and amount of space i had to install them. Also I personally like Kenwood and Pioneer I originally had a plain old kenwood double din deck and just recently switched it out for a pioneer AVH-4400BH and love it with the navigation now installed! Double Dins can be installed in 99-04 models just have to trim the top and bottom lip off on the inside of the radio bezel and a double din slides in no problem.
