56' radiator mount help

I ordered a new radiator and I'm having an issue mounting it because whoever installed the last one removed a piece to make it fit. The piece circled in the picture below n(shamelessly stolen from an ebay ad). I can't tell how that piece was connected...I wonder if I should attempt to get another one...or just put some metal straps on that side.

that's part of the frame. You will need to make on and weld it up. Good luck with your build.

Those brackets were rivoted to the radiator mount/support. Your best bet is to find a used one.

Where are you located? I've got a couple radiator mounts/supports laying around that might have the bracket you need. And did your truck have a V8 or a 6cyl stock. I might be wrong but I believe the 6cyl ones were different.

I'm in California. I think when I looked up the vin it said it had a 272? The radiator I ordered didn't ask for v6 or v8 so I assumed they were the same. it would fit perfect if I had the missing piece. I'll paypal you some cash and shipping if you've got one...

I'll dig out the radiator mounts/supports I've got this weekend. And will check and see if the mounting brackets are ok.

No V6 in an F100 until 1982. Fordman75 is referring to the 223 I-6 which was standard equipment in 1954/56's.

Radiator support is the SAME: 1953/56 F100/900 215/223 I-6 & and all V8's. See post 4.

When I got started on my 54 F250 the radiator had been removed. It did not have the crossbars I noticed in the picture. Mine has the inline 6. Does anyone know if they all had the cross pieces, if so I would like to put them in to make it look original, not that anyone else would probably notice.

I might be wrong but I don't think they started using the cross bars until 55.

I will look at the radiator supports I just took off of my core support, if they are still useable to can have them. Hopefully I didn't beat them up too bad.

I'll check today and get back to you this evening.

Ohbrian,
CA is a big long state, more info would help. If you are in the north I can weld it for you if you end up needing it welded. I will look to see if I still have mine as I took them off for a custom radiator set-up, no promises as it was a few years ago.

As stated they were riveted so you can always bolt it. Other wise if you go skiing bring your parts.

I checked my scrap pile and you are in luck, I have both radiator mounts. They were originally riveted in top and bottom with a couple of spot welds in the center area but they can be bolted back in without a problem.

If you want them just give me a PM with your address, all you need to do is pay the shipping.
