Has anyone experienced their starter not releasing once you release the ignition from the start position? Mine is doing it intermittently and sometimes I have to shut it off to make it stop dragging. Then it will function fine. Other times it drags for only a second the functions as normal. Otherwise it starts great, only takes a revolution or two to fire up.
Could it be the ignition switch hanging? The bezel spins independently of the key which is common on a lot of these older Fords.
Had that problem once. If i remember correctly i was told it has a spring that is suppose to pull it back off the fly wheel. If the spring gets weak your starter will drag and a new starter is the only fix. Mine would stop if i pat the fuel pedal a couple of quick times.
I have been away for a few days. It seems to only do it in the morning. Once it has run to normal temps it doesn't do it nearly as much. Usually just the first crank of the day. I have to shut it off to make it disengage and I'm worried I am damaging the flexplate ring gear plus dragging the starter overspeed.
Should I:
Have it rebuilt?
Replace it? If so are there any known good starters?
Try to get some sort of spray in the solenoid?
