I need a bit of help here all and I am hoping for some advise as I dont want to have to pull the motor if I don't have to.
First some back info I have a 351w t\tied to a mercruiser Alpha one setting in a 72 Fiberform boat as far as I know it is the original motor but am unsure the ony pn or sn I can find is on the intake and it matches a 84 econoline van. when I bought the boat the engine was froze the gentleman said it had been rebuilt 10yrs prior then set as his f.i.l passed shortly after finishing the rebuild(the hull was worth the price) well after letting the cylinders sit for a few days in marvel mystry oil the engine broke free and was fine after changing the oil, plugs, rebuilding the carb and reseting the points it ran fine until about 2 weeks ago when it stalled and wont restart i cant even turn it with a breaker bar.
There is about half an inch of play each way I have pulled the plugs this had no affect. just not sure what else to check before dismantling the engine was hoping for something i havn't thought of.
in case anyone is wondering I actually may have found the problem it turns out that the outdrive setup has a clutch in the bellhousing and after talking to my slip neighbor it may have failed and jamming it so I will be pulling her out the water to find. yes I feel stupid for not thinking up that sooner
