I have a 2008 F-250 XL and although I love the simplicity of the truck, the one feature I'm missing the most is a thermometer/compass on truck. Between the winters here in Colorado and off-roading in the Rocky Mountains, I would like a very basic device.
In fact, my handheld GPS and cell phone has compass-capabilities, so the exterior temperature gauge is what I'm mostly interested in finding. I've done quite a bit of research and it seems that everyone on FTE usually resorts to installing a digital rear-view mirror -- but I would rather avoid this option and install a very basic dash-mounted thermometer with an external sensor. Ideally, i would like to find one that is backlit and can be hardwired into the truck's power supply.
I know this sounds like a simple request, but I am having a surprisingly difficult time finding one.
Does anyone have a device like this or know where I could find one?
I have used the **** mirror in 3 trucks over the last 12 years. the guy i sold the last truck to is still driving it and the mirror is still working( that mirror was in 2 different trucks).
I would no hesitate to purchase it again , and it looks factory.
Found you one.

You could always purchase a Scangauge and use the intake air temperature as an indication of the outside air. That is what I use on my 2005 F150 XL. It is usually within a few degrees when driving, when at idle at a stoplight it will be off but nevertheless it will give you an indication of the outside air temperature.
