hi all
i got a 1995 F150 ext cab 3" suspension lift 5.8L V8 4wd. i have $400 to spend on my truck alone and was curious if any one had any ideas as to what i can spend it on that will be the most beneficial and why. and if possible spread the "wealth " through out a few things not just one.
Thanks for your help
TJ
If nothing is broken, don't throw too much money at it yet. It may come in handy when something actually does break unexpectedly.
If you want to do something fairly cheap though, grease all of grease-able fittings. Tie rod ends, ball joints, u-joints. These may not all be the grease able types, but you can grease whatever will take it. This is very good preventative maintenance.
You could also check out your brakes. We're headed into winter, so you may want to make sure your brakes are in good order. Check out your pads/rotors in the front, and adjust the rear drums (free), and your rubber brake hoses. Maybe bleed new fluid through the system if it's dark/old and you feel that it needs it. You won't even get near your $400 here, and it's good regular maintenance.
personially heres what I would (and do) do in your case...
If it ain't broke, I ain't a fixin' it, and save the $400 for a rainy day and while saving the $400 every so often (assumeing your work or have a job of some type) put a few dollars ($20 - $40) away in the "truck fund" and build up more $$$ that way...I do this and it works....when I don't have massive repairs to do
Thanks everyone but i got one question you all may be able to help me with.
when my hubs are in the free position may truck drives just fine but when i lock my hubs it makes a grinding and knocking sound. my question is do i need to replace the wheel bearing/ hub assembly or just the lockout hubs?
it grinds when its in 4hi but I'm not sure where the sound is coming from i just here it in the cab com in from somewhere
As has been said, cheap the front axle U-joints for play. They can make an awful racket if they're really worn out or if someone put in the wrong size. It's an easy place to start.
